02 October. John begins this (17 minute and sometimes slow-loading) video with a snippet from his launch statement to the press. Following that, Foreign Affairs Spokesman, Hon Murry McCully, walks the audience through the document, which is available on the National website in the Discussion Document section. Following Murray's presentation, the video returns to the press Q&A with John, dealing intitially with questions about the paper and moving on into questions of a more general nature.

Lets get our air combat wing back John, with the ammount of fanatics increasing by the day who is to say some one wont fly a plane in to our financial hub or ram raid a boat full of explosives in to a cruise liner in our waters. Nothing else has the speed or reach to intercept those targets & even if it is only a half dozen aircraft on lease & fighter pilot training is done in Australia. It would be highly arrogant for anyone to assume it wont happen here. If NewZealand is a modern western country with western values, western friends & contains global western interests it needs to be capable or when it gets to hard overseas NewZealand will be exploited!!!! People need to understand that.

Very dissapoined to hear that Natioal would even consider re-appointing the minister of baubles to the foreign affars portfolio. I would have thought that the strategy would be to keep Winston in suspense for as long as possible and campaign very vigorously in Tauranga so that he is no longer even in the equasion. He has spent the last 5 years slagging National and supporting Labour at every opportunity and now that the tide has turned, National has apparently thrown him a lifebouy. Bad PR boys!

In response to defence discussion paper i would strongly oppose the continuation of nuclear free NZ. I am deeply saddened that the National will continue a policy designed to keep American Warships out of our waters. With China emerging as an economic powerhouse and their continued build up in the millitary including aircraft carriers it is of upmost importance for US warships to have a presence in our ports.
